Wildfire Risk In California And Northwest Surges

Areas up and down the Pacific Coast, in Canada, Utah, and Nevada, are expected to have temperatures 20 degrees F above average. Married with drought, widespread wildfires are expected to fill the sky with smoke over vast distances. Smoke has already begun to move south from Canada.

Record Heat –144 Degrees In Dubai

Canadian wildfire smoke spread from New York to the West Coast last year. The sky above New York contained air pollution unprecedented for decades. The heavy smoke spread as far west as Minnesota. Wildfires could cause $800 billion in damage this year.

Accuweather says, “Much of the Pacific Northwest experiences the least amount of rain of the year from summer through early fall. Vegetation tends to dry out slowly in the sunshine and heat with each passing day, so lightning could easily spark a fire.” At least 50 large wildfires were active this week. Dry thunderstorms have caused over 1,000 since the start of 2024.

Storms in Western Canada have created conditions for wildfires. This smoke will probably hit the Rockies and then move toward the East Coast. Wildfires have caused severe smoke before.

The vast spread of wildfire smoke has started to look like last year.
