The Park Fire in California is the state’s largest this year. It has burned 71,000 acres, 45,000 of which came in 14 hours. The fire is burning northeast of Hamilton City.

It appears an arsonist started the fire. At least 1,000 firefights are fighting the fire. CalFire says the Park Fire is only 3% contained, which means at least tens of thousands of more acres will be destroyed.

    Senate Report

According to research commissioned by members of the US Senate, The total cost of wildfires in the United States is between $394 billion to $893 billion each year. This range was calculated by combining estimates from the existing research on the specific costs related to property damage, direct and indirect deaths and injuries, health impacts from wildfire smoke, income loss, watershed pollution, and a range of other factors. Each of these impacts on their own are very costly. Taken together, they represent disastrous consequences for the country.

Hot air and drought have made the problem more severe most years.
