Boar's Head Provisions Co. just expanded their July 26, 2024, recall of deli meat products sold in California due to the possible presence of Listeria monocytogenes. According to the United States Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service , the company recalled "7 million additional pounds of ready-to-eat meat and poultry products" nationwide on Tuesday (July 30th), which includes 71 total Boar's Head deli items.

The recalled products were produced between May 10, 2024, and July 29, 2024 and feature sell by dates "ranging from 29-JUL-2024 through 17-OCT-24."

"34 sick people have been identified in 13 states, including 33 hospitalizations and two deaths" as part of the ongoing recall. The FSIS warned that food contaminated with the bacteria can cause a serious infection that severely impacts those who are pregnant (causing miscarriages and stillbirths), over the age of 65, and have previously compromised immune systems.

Minor symptoms of an infection brought on by Listeria include "fever, muscle aches, headache, stiff neck, confusion, loss of balance and convulsions sometimes preceded by diarrhea or other gastrointestinal symptoms."

Individuals who notice any of these symptoms "within two months after eating contaminated food" should seek immediate medical attention .
