Best Mexican Restaurants in San Jose

    2021-03-12

Our friends south of the border sure do know their way around a kitchen. Mexican food is a favorite of just about every Californian. Whether it is the grilled meats, slow-cooked soups, or their tangy salsas, Mexican cuisine is beloved throughout the world. Their flavorful dishes, that can sometimes include jalapeno or red chilies, are also popular amongst those who enjoy a kick of spice. San Jose is lucky enough to feature some wonderful Mexican restaurants that feature a variety of authentic offerings. Read on to learn about the four best Mexican restaurants in all of San Jose.

    LUNA Mexican Kitchen

Located on The Alameda in San Jose, LUNA’s menu has it all. Their breakfast menu features horchata French toast. This dish is inspired by the popular sweetened rice drink and it is the tastiest I've ever had. Since I prefer something a little savory for breakfast, I stick with my go-to dish: the steak con juevos. It even comes with a side of grilled cactus called nopal, which I was reluctant to try at first but it turned out to be quite good. They offer lunch, dinner, and dessert. Save room for their version of Mexican donuts called buñuelos because it will blow your mind!

    Dia De Pesca

As its name implies to those familiar with the language, Dia De Pesca is known for its seafood. Located on Bascom Avenue, this is the place to be if you are a fan of a refreshing camaron cocktail. This chilled shrimp dish is served in a goblet. They also feature tacos, burritos, and quesadillas in addition to their breakfast options.

What I recommend: fish tacos and fish burritos

Location: 55 N Bascom Ave San Jose, CA 95128

    Adelita’s Taqueria and Bar

Whether you are looking for breakfast, lunch, dinner, vegan, sweets, or kid friendly, Adelita’s does it all. Located on Curtner Avenue, they offer a wide variety to please everyone. On Saturdays and Sundays, they serve traditional menudo with hominy. My personal favorite is the lettuce wrapped super fish taco. I order it with a glass of tamarindo which is an authentic Mexican agua fresca. Make sure to save room for dessert! They offer a variety of Mexican favorites such as churros and flan. On special occasions, I order the fried ice cream.

    Aqui Cal Mex

With multiple locations throughout San Jose, Aqui Cal Mex features an organic menu. They even change things up with seasonal offerings. Their regular menu features everything from starters to dessert. I recommend starting out with their green chile tomatillo soup. When it comes to the entrée, you can’t go wrong with their grilled salmon bowl. They feature their salmon alongside a cornmeal and sweet potato fritter and serve it over broccoli. For dessert, they offer a decadent flourless chocolate cake. And instead of boring old soda, I always opt for the aqua fresca flavor of the day.

What I recommend: grilled salmon bowl

Location: 1145 Lincoln Ave San Jose, CA 95125

If you visit the San Jose area, then I encourage you to give one of these great restaurants a try. Whether your eating companions are following a gluten free or vegan diet, there is something on the menus of these places to please all palates. They even have plenty of tasty options for the kids. Give them a try, and you will learn that you can’t go wrong with Mexican food.
