The Best Fancy Restaurants in San Francisco

    2021-03-31

Living in the Bay Area my whole life, I have been blessed with some of the nicest and fanciest restaurants in California. Although I have not been to all the fancy restaurants in San Francisco, off the top of my head, I can already think of three that I got to experience in the past ten years and they completely blew my mind. Just to get it started, I will talk about three of my favorites here in San Francisco.

    Gary Danko

I had to start off with the best restaurant I've ever been to and it is Gary Danko. Gary Danko is a wonderful Michelin star restaurant that has been talked about amongst my family and colleagues for many years. To this day, it is still my all time favorite restaurant with the ambiance, the top notch service, and the most delectable dishes I've ever experienced. Some of my favorite dishes I got to try were the seared sea scallops, seared ahi tuna, maine lobster, and seared filet of beef. The great thing about Gary Danko is that you can choose between a 3 course meal and a 5 course meal. And you're able to swap between the different meals so they're very flexible when it comes to wanting to try other dishes that's not part of the course meals. I will never forget my first time here, extraordinary meal.

What I recommend: go with the 5 course meal and choose the proteins

Now that we got Gary Danko out of the way, lets talk about my absolute favorite steakhouse in San Francisco. Now some of you may disagree because there are quite a few steakhouses in San Francisco but I keep coming back to 5A5 and they consistently blow me away every single time. For me, my order doesn't change: 32oz bone-in ribeye, medium rare and it is cooked with boursin herb cheese, brandy peppercorn sauce and fried sage. Perfection. If your wallet can handle it, they serve A5 wagyu here that ranges from $155 - $595, which is only 4-8oz so like I said, only get the A5 wagyu if you're trying to do some serious damage. But besides the wagyu, there steaks are the most tender and melt in your mouth meats ever. For a side, I always have to get truffle mac and cheese. I'm not even that big of a fan of mac and cheese but the truffle mac and cheese is a game changer. 5A5 will forever be one of my all time favorites.

What I recommend: bone-in ribeye, A5 wagyu, truffle mac and cheese

    House of Prime Rib

Okay, I can't talk about the best fancy restaurants without talking about the most reviewed upscale restaurant in the San Francisco area: House of Prime Rib. I am not the biggest expert when it comes to prime rib but I instantly fell in love with their prime rib the moment it melted in my mouth. Does steak do that? I believe good steak does and House of Prime Rib gets it done. I always getting the biggest cut, King Henry, because if you opt in for the King Henry, you can eat as many slices as you want (no take homes if you order more) on the house. Each plate comes with a salad, yorkshire pudding, some amazing mashed potatoes, and lastly creamed spinach or creamed corn to go with your prime rib. Believe me when I tell you this place is phenomenal.

What I recommend: King Henry cut

Location: 1906 Van Ness Ave San Francisco, CA 94109

If I could choose, I would rate all three of these restaurants as my #1 favorite. Gary Danko for the experience of a lifetime, 5A5 for the best cuts of steaks, and House of Prime Rib just for the absolute best prime rib in the world. But I'll leave it at that. Top 3 favorite fancy restaurants in San Francisco. Let me know if you agree or disagree because I would love to try your favorites.
