    Top Restaurants in Palo Alto

    2021-05-01

One of my favorite cities in the Bay Area would have to be Palo Alto, for the Standford Mall and all the surrounding restaurants the city has to offer. If you're ever in the area, all you have to do is go down University Ave, and you'll discover that they literally have evey cuisine down that street. A few years back, I worked at Hewlett Packard and many nights the work led to evenings where we would all go out and find restaurants to eat at. I've compiled some of my favorite restaurants when I go back and visit the great city of Palo Alto.

    Ramen Nagi

Maybe I'm bias towards ramen, but I love a city that serves great ramen and Ramen Nagi is one of the best ramen out there. There has to be a reason why they chose Palo Alto and it's because the residents of Palo Alto has good taste in food. Ramen Nagi not only surpasses all ramen in the Bay Area, but they strive to be the spiciest as well. If you want a challenge with the spice kings of Bay Area, try a bowl of Red King and ask for a leve 10. I recently went back and decided to try a level 8 and got destroyed. Coming from a Burmese background, I grew up eating the spiciest of foods but a level 8 on their menu is already way spicier than what I normally eat. Not a fan of spicy? They have amazing options from original to basil and you can customize the broth, ingredients, and even the size of the noodles (thin or thick, extra firm to extra soft). They really have everything you could want in a bowl of ramen so they don't ever miss. I love coming here when I visit Palo Alto.

What I recommend: Red king or original king but add everything

    Oren's Hummus

Growing up, I was not exposed to Mediterranean food because it wasn't that common in the East Bay Area but I knew I was missing out when I first tried Oren's Hummus. Not only do they have some of the tastiest meats I've ever had but you can mix anything you want with their hummus and it's instantly 10x better. I've had hummus before but their hummus is next level. They're located on University Ave and as I mentioned before, that street has every type of food you could crave. Next time you're in the area, try their lamb hummus or beef hummus because they give you a generous amount and the taste of their meats are just so remarkable.

What I recommend: lamb hummus or beef hummus and take some hummus to go

When I first started my job at Hewlett Packard, the team took me to NOLA and claimed it was their favorite restaurant because the drinks were as good as the food. I would like to say that I agree with that statement because their drinks are strong yet so delicious. When I first visited, I got the margarita and wow, it was so tasty I ordered two. Just to be safe, I got the chicken and waffles and it turned out to be one of the most popular menu items. The waffles were perfectly crispy and and soft at the same time. Their chicken was packed with flavor and was the most tender and moist chicken ever. I would love to come back here just for the drinks but I know their dishes here are all amazing.

What I recommend: chicken and waffles

Being so close to Palo Alto has its perks like the fine dining University Ave has to offer. Besides the great food, Palo Alto is also 10 minutes away from Facebook which is a nice photo op after a delicious meal. I could write tons of articles about the restaurants in Palo Alto because I've been to so many and 90% of the meals I've had were amazing. Besides the restaurants, there's tons of amazing dessert spots near by and the night life just doesn't stop in Palo Alto so bring a jacket and walk the streets for date night.
