Mexican food is a fan favorite in this country for a reason. Whether it is their beloved tacos or grilled meats, their savory offerings are something that the whole family can agree on when it comes to choosing a spot for dinner time. The Seattle area has some delightful offerings when it comes to tasty Mexican food. It is not an easy task to sample burritos and quesadillas throughout the western part of Washington, but it was a task I was well prepared for. If you are looking for some great Mexican food, check out the top Mexican restaurants in Seattle.
With many locations in and around Seattle, Tacos Chukis offers so many options. Of course, their house taco, the taco Chukis, is a hit. It features their adobada pork next to sweet grilled pineapple. I never would have thought to put pineapples on pizzas and now they have pineapples in tacos? Althought it's a weird combination, it definitely works. The flavor of sweet and savory really is a hit in these tacos. They also make a great carne asada taco if you want to be safe but I have to admit, their meat is moist and tender. If you are looking for vegetarian options, they offer a bean taco with onion and cilantro as well as a nopal taco. For those not familiar, nopal is the leaf of the prickly pear cactus and it is pretty good. Yes, that is correct. They serve cactus tacos so I would come here just to try out what that really tastes like. All of these options go great with a cold Dos Equis beer or a tall glass of their sweet horchata.
Located on Pine Street in the popular Capitol Hill area, you will want to come early when you visit Fogón Cocina Mexicana because there is a line out the door every time we get here. Also they have some great breakfast options such as huevos rancheros and chilaquiles so you don't want to miss the breakfast option. For lunch and dinner, they feature all of the popular Mexican options. I suggest their enchiladas de mariscos. These enchiladas are stuffed full of scallops, crab, and shrimp with their creamy chipotle sauce. If you are looking for some warm comfort food, try a steaming hot bowl of their sopa de albondigas. It features their tender pork meatballs in a savory tomato broth.
What I recommend: Enchiladas de mariscos (amazing scallops, crab, and shrimp)
With two locations serving the Seattle area, La Carta de Oaxaca is as well known for its huge offering of tequila and mezcal as they are for their food. For my appetizer, I start out with their tangy chilled ceviche de pescado. It features marinated halibut with lime juice and avocado. For my dinner, it does not get much better than their chile relleno. This cheese-stuffed chile pepper is then fried to crispy perfection. If you are up for it, ask the staff to recommend their favorite mezcal. Of course, why decide on a favorite when you can order a flight of three or four of their offerings?
What I recommend: Halibut with extra lime juice
Location: 5431 Ballard Ave NW Seattle, WA 98107
Whatever it is that brings you to Seattle, you will want to make sure to take the time to visit one of these great restaurants. When it comes to all the old favorites such as enchiladas and flautas, the above spots serve some of the best around. Be sure to give one of them a try as I am sure they will be one of your new favorites as well.
