    Top Mexican Restaurants in Portland

    2021-05-19

Mexican food has long been popular in many parts of the United States. In fact, if just an average Mexican restaurant were to open up in any state, it likely would not have a chance at survival. There are far too many amazing spots serving up our favorite, savory Mexican dishes. The city of Portland is definitely no different. They are lucky enough to be home to some wonderful, authentic Mexican options that the whole family will be sure to enjoy. I have managed to pick out just a few of my favorites that are absolutely worth a visit the next time you are in the Pacific Northwest. Keep reading to learn about the top Mexican restaurants in Portland.

    Por Que No? Taqueria

When it comes to tacos, I always say why not? And that is exactly what the folks at Por Que No would say as that is the translation of their name. With two locations serving the Portland area, they offer an amazing taco selection that will excite any palate. My personal favorite is their chorizo taco topped with cilantro and queso fresco and believe me when I tell you that the chorizo in their tacos are so delectable, you're going to want to take some home. They even offer taco kits so that you can assemble in the comfort of your own home. You better believe that I took some home for myself and a couple kits for my family. For the little ones, they have quesadillas and cheese tacos that are perfect for those with tiny hands but honestly, I sometimes take their quesadillas for myself because they are so delicious. I always make sure to wash it down with one of their margaritas when I'm done because why not?

What I recommend: chorizo tacos and some of their margaritas

    The Matador

With many locations throughout the Northwest, The Matador is as well known for its cuisine as it is for its tequila offerings. I would know because I chug down their drinks while munching on their best dishes. They use only all-natural products and source their fruits and vegetables while in season. I like to being my meal with their southwest chop salad of greens, roasted corn, and black beans. As an entrée, I suggest their verde carnitas enchiladas. These enchiladas feature their tender shredded pork with a tangy green salsa. If you want more of their green salsa, ask for some on the side. You're definitely going to want to ask for some on the side! They also offer family style options at quite the affordable price. During your visit, be sure to ask for a tequila recommendation because I'm telling you, it might knock you out but you're going to love drinking it before that.

    What I recommend: amazing enchiladas

    Nuestra Cocina

Located in the Southeastern part of Portland, Nuestra Cocina, which translates to “Our Kitchen”, is run by a husband-and-wife team. They make an amazing sopa de lima con pollo. It is loaded with plenty of chicken and topped with crunch tortilla strips. For a main dish, my favorite is easily their carne asada. This grilled steak marinated in citrus goes great with their drunken beans. In addition to their margaritas and sangria, they also offer their own take on traditional Mexican flan. Their flan de naranja is a custard drizzled in a sweet orange caramel sauce. Save some room because it is worth it.

What I recommend: carne asada is always a crowd pleaser

Location: 2135 SE Division St Portland, OR 97202

Many people would not think of Portland as a taco town, but I certainly hope that the above has convinced you otherwise. When visiting Portland, make sure you do enough sight seeing on foot to build up a considerable appetite. You will want to arrive hungry when you check out one of these great spots.
