Top Mexican Restaurants in Sacramento
2021-05-20
California offers so many different types of cuisine thanks to its rich diversity. We are lucky enough to have everything from Burmese to Vietnamese to Japanese. When it comes to popular fare that offers something for the whole gang, it is tough to beat Mexican food. The Sacramento area has a number of great options when it comes to Mexican food. Though picking a favorite spot in this area may seem quite near impossible, I did my best to narrow down my three favorites. Read on to learn more about the top Mexican food restaurants in Sacramento.
Located on K street, Tres Hermanas makes all of my favorites. I always begin with an order of their fresh and delicious guacamole. It can be easy to fill up on it alongside their chips, so make sure to save room for one of their amazing burritos. Their pastor burrito dinner is my personal favorite. It features their tangy adobo pork with sweet pineapple. I wasn't too sure about having pineapple in a burrito but it works! I also took a carne asada burrito to-go and that was very good. Bring the kids as they are sure to enjoy one of their quesadillas but honestly, I love their quesadillas myself. They also offer a variety of fajitas from shrimp to vegetarian. For those who like to finish their meal with a sweet treat, I recommend an order of their deep-fried ice cream. Yes, you heard that correctly. DEEP-FRIED ice cream!
With multiple locations serving the Sacramento area, Chando's Tacos offers taco options from the traditional to the exotic. You can treat yourself to a chicken or chorizo taco, and I promise you will not be disappointed. Their chicken is so moist and tender, you're going to hate yourself for not ordering a few more to go. If you are feeling a little more adventurous, then try one of their beef tongue or beef cheek tacos because although it sounds intimidating, it is very delectable. Chando’s also offers cheese shell tacos for those who are cutting out the carbs. They also offer kids’ portions and plenty of options for the vegetarians. They even have food truck, so consider them when catering your next event.
What I recommend: their tacos are great but try a beef tongue just for fun
Whether you are in the mood for just a small plate, or you are taking the whole family out for dinner, Zocalo will absolutely deliver. I recommend trying their fresh ceviche de guaymas as a starter. Though their tacos are amazing, try their cochinita pibil, a smoked pork shoulder in their achiote rub with habanero salsa. For groups of up to 10 people, they offer a taco, enchilada, or burrito bar. It includes your choice of two meats along with their savory black beans and cilantro rice. Choose from chicken, pork, beef, and even vegetarian.
What I recommend: smoked pork shoulder is something to try

If you live in the Sacramento area or are planning a visit, then you will want to make time to try one or all of these flavorful spots. They all offer such a wide variety of options to please everyone from the fussy kids to those who are counting their carbs. They are perfect for a large dinner out with family or friends or even for just a quick lunch by yourself. There is a reason Californians have had such a long love affair with Mexican food, and a trip to one of these spots will definitely show you why.
