What to Do When Visiting Honolulu Part 3

    2021-07-17

Narrowing down the best spots to visit in Honolulu is no easy task, so it is clear to see why this list has taken up just more than one article. With so much to do on the island, choosing the best of the best was a tough process. Since most travelers will have only a limited amount of time to take it all in, I have provided a few more of my favorite spots to help you plan. Read on to learn more about what to do when visiting Honolulu.

    Corsair Wreck Dive Site

Located just about 3 miles off the coast of Oahu, this plane wreck dive site is quite the experience. Since its demise in 1948, the wreckage of this plane has become both a garden at the bottom of the ocean as well as a play spot for the local eels. This is not an easy dive, however. It is one for the more advance divers who are capable of swimming about 30 feet to the wreck. And I am not sure if this helps, but it is kind of nice to learn that the pilot survived the crash. Just being able to swim down and explore makes this experience such a cool thing to do in Hawaii.

Shangri La Museum of Islamic Art

Hawaii has plenty of outdoor beauty to behold, but the Shangri La Museum of Islamic Art offers some indoor beauty as well. The museum is a perfect spot to take children to learn about global cultures. All visitors will enjoy the visually pleasing artwork that was curated over a 60-year period by collector and patron Doris Duke. Some of the pieces are from her collection, and some were commissioned at her request. If you want, they have different tours where they show you all the coolest parts of the art museums and some secret spots you wouldn't be able to find if you didn't try out their tours. It is a truly unique experience.

    Hanauma Bay Snorkel Fun

This wildly popular tourist destination is located on the East side of Honolulu. It features breath-taking marine life such as turtles and parrotfish. Due to its popularity, the park is limited to 720 visitors per day. Plan ahead to make a reservation so that you can guarantee a spot on the sand to view the scenery and sea creatures. Admission to the bay is $12 which does not include parking which costs and additional $3 for non-residents. What I love about this bay is the snorkeling that you get to experience under water. It does get crowded because everyone wants a turn but make your reservations because this snorkeling experience is worth it!

    Aloha Tower

This famous landmark is actually a retired lighthouse. Built in 1926, it acts as a welcoming beacon to all tourists and visitors. While taking in this stunning structure, there is plenty to do in the surrounding Aloha Tower Marketplace such as dining and shopping. At about 184 feet tall, this structure used to be the tallest in Hawaii. Take a trip to its 10th floor observation deck to take in some views that can only be described as breathtaking.

One of the many great things about Hawaii is that it offers something to please all comers. People who enjoy adventures, artwork, history, and relaxation will enjoy any of the above options on their visit. If you are struggling to decide how to spend your time on your trip to the islands, might I suggest that you extend your visit by a few days?
