    2021-07-17

Trying to narrow down the best spots to visit when in San Francisco has proven to be no easy task. A city that is filled with this much culture, history, and beauty may take a few days to fully explore. The good news is that this city is easy to navigate, so you can fit in many of its famous landmarks and neighborhoods in a short amount of time. There will be no shortage of options to choose from when you visit. If you are trying to narrow down some of the best spots to see, then keep reading to learn more about what to do when visiting San Francisco.

    The Castro District

If you are interested in learning about a spot that was at the forefront of the LGBT+ movement, then look no further than the Castro District. This famed neighborhood has been a leader in LGBT+ activism since as far back as the 1960s. The town is an homage to the history of its community leaders. Check out their Rainbow Honor Walk with its bronze plaques honoring LGBT+ icons. Take a stroll to Harvey Milk Plaza which is a MUNI stop named in honor of the first openly gay man to be elected to public office in the state of California. There are also plenty of LGBT+-owned bars and restaurants that are worth a visit.

    Baker Beach

This may not be the spot for laying on the sand and soaking up some rays, but it is a great spot to experience some amazing views. Baker Beach is a one mile stretch on the western shore of Presidio. The views of the Golden Gate Bridge do not get much better than from this spot. If you are lucky, you may get a chance to spot a porpoise at play in the water. There are picnic facilities available, so bring some snacks and spend an afternoon in this beautiful spot. The best part is that a stroll to this beach is free of charge. One thing I would point out is this is more of a nude beach so it's not really kid friendly. I'm not sure who started this trend but all the locals know that people come here and walk around naked most of the time so proceed with caution.

Are you ready to shop until you drop? Ferry Building Marketplace is the place to do just that. Its famed farmer’s markets are perfect for picking up fresh ingredients for the evening’s dinner. They also offer live music, flea markets, and presentations by local chefs. Every Saturday, I come to visit because they have an amazing fruit selection as well as many local and small businesses where we can help support. It is a great destination for any traveling foodies, book lovers, and coffee drinkers. You will want to be sure to visit on an empty stomach. And if you need to pick up any gifts or souvenirs to bring back to family and friends? This is the perfect place to do just that.

Though their amazing sourdough bread bowls are as good as they say, there is so much more to San Francisco. It has a rich history of honoring diversity, plenty of spots to admire the gorgeous bay, and tons of options for shopping and eating. One thing is certain, and that is that you will have a great time no matter which of the above spots you visit.
