CALLAWAY, Fla. ( WMBB ) — The doors to hundreds of ‘Badcock & More’ furniture stores in the southeastern region are closing soon. A company called Conn’s bought the chain last December, and now they’re filing for bankruptcy.

“We got a call from corporate stating that they had declared bankruptcy, and they would be closing all of our stores,” Badcock Store Owner Sonja Reinhardt said.

After 30 years of serving the community, Reinhardt is forced to close the doors to both of her furniture stores, one in Panama City and the other in Lynn Haven.

“I worked with my mother and, you know, my mother had a store and it’s just, you know, it’s been a family thing and it’s been a family-owned business for a very, very long time,” Reinhardt said.

Reinhardt said this creates a huge financial burden. She doesn’t know what she’s going to do once the stores close.

“I was hoping to retire one day, you know, it’s like a punch in the gut. It’s very, very, very troublesome. It’s very much a huge financial bind. I’m worried and I’m mad today,” Reinhardt said.

This isn’t the first time Reinhardt has faced adversity with her business.

“I lost both buildings in Hurricane Michael. I rebuilt them brand spanking new. That took a lot. Reopened the day that COVID hit. I’ve been through a lot,” Reinhardt said.

Reinhardt said she’s sad this is the end of the road for Badcock furniture stores.

“I have had wonderful employees over all these years. I’ve met a lot of great people and friends. I have made friends out of customers, and I want those customers to know that I will be here for the next 90 days to take care of them,” Reinhardt said.

She’s hopeful for what’s to come in the future.

“I don’t know what the future holds, but I’m sure God has a big plan for me,” Reinhardt said.

The stores began liquidating all of the furniture today. The sale will last for 90 days. No word as to when they’ll actually close the doors.
