Durkee Fire could see ‘extreme behavior, growth’ in next 24 hours, officials say
The Durkee Fire in Eastern Oregon has grown to 244,842 acres and is expected to continue to grow due to extreme fire behavior and a Red Flag Warning, with several evacuation notices in place.
Air quality alert for Baker County
An air quality alert was issued on Wednesday at 10:55 a.m. for Baker County. "High concentration of smoke particulates from wildfire smoke," can be expected according to the weather service. "Smoke levels can change rapidly depending on weather. Check current conditions on the Oregon Smoke Information Blog, DEQ's Air Quality Index, or by downloading the free OregonAIR app on your smartphone."

Tonight (Tuesday) we were able to speak with Weiser’s Fire Chief Tim Atwood before he headed back out to work the fires that have been filling our little valley with smoke. Atwood shared, “Yesterday (Monday) we had a significant fire start on the east side of Interstate 84 near Durkee, so a separate fire has now taken off. The Durkee fire and Cow (Valley) fire have now burned together and they are managing all this now as a complex.” With this new development Atwood shared that the complex is currently the largest in the nation.
