BLACKFOOT — A 40-year-old local man was recently sentenced to serve up to 14 years in prison for leading officers on a high-speed chase in February while in a stolen car with a juvenile still inside the vehicle. Brent T. Sequints Jr., of Fort Hall, received a unified sentence of 14 years, of which at least four are mandatory, during a sentencing hearing in front of 7th District Judge Darren B. Simpson on Monday. ...
Coroner IDs Meridian man who died in house fire
The man who died in a house fire last week has been publicly identified. Norman Duncan, 84, was pronounced dead on Saturday morning following a Friday evening house fire on West Vaquero Lane in Meridian, the Ada County Coroner’s Office announced Thursday. The Meridian Fire Department responded to the fire at around 7 p.m. Friday, July 19, and Duncan died at the scene, as previously reported. Twelve units responded to the fire and it took approximately 30 minutes to extinguish. Duncan’s cause and manner of death are pending, the coroner’s office said.

LAPWAI - An Air Quality Advisory has been issued for the Nez Perce Reservation due to smoke from wildfires. This advisory will remain in effect until Friday, July 26, at 10:00 AM. Wildfire smoke may move in and out of the area depending on fire and wind activity, impacting some areas more than others. No EPA/NPT burn permits will be approved during this period.
