The Dorchester County Historical Society’s seventieth anniversary has just reached its end, but the organization is not slowing down by any means. This summer, it is full steam ahead with a schedule packed full of new, exciting events and programs for people of all ages.

Event details may be subject to adjustments or changes, so it is helpful to check their Facebook page or website, dorchesterhistory.com, to confirm any updates. Each event will take place right at the Historical Society at 1003 Greenway Drive in Cambridge.

July 11: Come see a special presentation on the rich history of the local timber industry by Tom Bradshaw.

July 13: Learn about local chapters of the Daughters and Sons of the American Revolution during an introductory presentation and find out about how you can join.

July 20: Learn all about market hunting and trapping for a day and stay for a presentation on the book The Outlaw Gunner with Joe Walsh.

July 24: Expand your carving skills by taking part in a new Hedgehog carving class.

July 27: Families are invited to a very special breakfast/brunch tea party in the historic Meredith House. A parent or guardian must attend with their child, but attendees are encouraged to bring their favorite doll or toy to the party!

Aug. 3: Take part in another of DCHS’ basket making classes, where you will learn to weave and construct a basket of your own.

Aug. 5: DCHS members can register their kids for this unique woodpecker door knocker carving class.

Aug. 17t & 24: There will be a two-part beginner’s quilting workshop. Even kids ages eight and up may enjoy sewing with adult supervision.

Aug. 22: Discover the unusual history of giants in America during a presentation by Terry Crannell.

Aug. 29: Test your knowledge of famous residents and films on the Eastern Shore during a presentation on the book “Stardust by the Bushel” by author Brent Lewis.

DCHS would love to see new faces in the audience at each of these events. Consider stopping by to check out their museum, research library, and historic property in the meantime, and bring your friends or family. There is much to explore!
