Herman's Bakery in Cambridge has announced that it will close on July 31.

"With a heavy heart, we are here to inform you that Herman's Bakery will be closing," the bakery wrote on Facebook .

"This was not an easy decision, and we wish things would have worked out differently. We just wanted to say thank you for your support all these years. We consider you all to be our family and will miss you dearly."

The July 24 post was met with an outpouring of love from regulars who called the bakery and coffee shop a "staple" of the community.

"My husband and I have been going to the bakery with all our kids for over 20 years," one commenter wrote. "Special occasions were celebrated with a cake from the bakery. Special accomplishment earned a trip to the bakery. Heck, it's a Friday, we should go to the bakery! I feel this is a huge loss for our community. This is an iconic part of our little town."

Another commented, "I am crying. I stop in there once a week before work."

Founded in 1980 by Lois and Herman Oestreich, the couple sold the shop in 2017, per Home Town Source . It was sold again in 2019 to Marty Thorp, who has run Herman's Bakery since.
