In a game where there would be a total of five hits, runs would be at a premium between Cambridge and Poynette on Monday, April 8 at DeForest High School.

Marco Damiani’s hit in the bottom of the sixth inning for Cambridge would be the difference.

With runners on second and third base with two outs, Damiani hit a single to right field to drive in Carter Lund and Owen Bernhardt, breaking a scoreless tie. Damiani led the Blue Jays with two hits.

The runs would be plenty for the Cambridge pitching staff as two pitchers combined for the shutout. In the seventh, Lund recorded two strikeouts and allowed one hit before being lifted after reaching the 100-pitch limit.

Inheriting a runner on first base, relief pitcher Clayton Stenjem recorded the final out for Cambridge on a ground out to clinch the 2-0 win. Lund pitched 6 and ⅔ innings with 12 strikeouts.

Cambridge is 1-0 on the season.
