    Cambridge-Isanti 2021 Referendum Overview

    Cambridge-Isanti 2021 Referendum Overview

Strong Schools. Strong Communities. The children of Cambridge-Isanti will one day lead our cities, schools, businesses, churches, states and nation. We are asking local voters to invest in their future — our collective future. Why a referendum is needed State funding is not keeping up with inflation. The lack of funding has resulted in larger class sizes, fewer teachers and staff, fewer critical support systems for students, and limited career, technical and college credit opportunities for students. Compared to neighboring districts, we rank last in per student funding — and fall in the bottom 7% statewide. Without a local referendum, we are losing quality teachers to districts with more stable funding. We have a revenue problem to solve. We listened On our year-end family survey, parents said funding is the #1 challenge the district faces. We have listened to our community’s residents, and now present a clear, conservative plan for voters this fall. The referendum amount — less than last year — was determined by a Community Task Force to be reasonable and responsible after studying district finances. Two simple questions This referendum is clear and specifically states how the funds will be used. • Question 1: Support student learning, hire/retain high quality teachers, reduce class sizes. • Question 2: Enhance vocational-technical career classes and increase opportunities to earn college credits in high school. Question 2 can only pass if Question 1 passes. Learn more at https://www.c-ischools.org/referendum #BluejacketPride #LevyforLearning Read more

Most people are surprised to learn that Cambridge-Isanti Schools rank LAST in the Mississippi 8 conference for student funding and spending. In state rankings, Cambridge-Isanti Schools rank #311 out of 327 Minnesota school districts in funding. The average school district referendum is $856 in Minnesota. C-I Schools has none. This fall, a Community Task Force encouraged the School Board to place a referendum on the ballot. The two-question referendum is very specific: increase funding to support student learning, hire and keep high-quality teachers and staff, reduce class sizes, enhance vocational-technical education and college readiness. If both questions are approved, the district will gain $3.6 million in additional revenue. The cost to taxpayers is $12 per month on a home valued at $200,000.
