    Carter Lund and Owen Bernhardt hit homers; Cambridge baseball sweeps doubleheader against Belleville

    The Cambridge baseball team swept a doubleheader against Belleville on Saturday, April 13 at Cambridge High School.

    In the first game of the doubleheader, senior Carter Lund pitched five innings, giving up one hit and recording 11 strikeouts in a 6-4 win.

    Along with the five innings pitched, Lund drove in senior Marco Damiani on an RBI single in the top of the first inning.

    In the second, Damiani drove in sophomore Jett Horton on an RBI double and then scored off an RBI single from junior Kiefer Parish.

    Damiani also scored on a Belleville error off a ground ball hit by Lund in the fifth. In the sixth, junior Clayton Stenjem hit an RBI single to score senior Devin Schuchart.

    In the second game, Lund and senior Owen Bernhardt both hit back-to-back home runs in a Cambridge 11-1 win.

    Lund hit a three-run homer in the fourth inning, scoring Damiani and Parish. During the next at-bat, Bernhardt launched an 0-2 pitch over the centerfield fence.

    Bernhardt also hit an RBI single in the first to score Stenjem and recorded a bunt single in the third to score Damiani.

    On the mound, Parish recorded three innings of work with two strikeouts. Horton pitched the final three innings, recording four strikeouts.

    Cambridge is 3-2 overall and 2-0 in the Capitol-South Conference.

    Lake Mills 5, Cambridge 4

    With the game tied at 4-4 in the top of the seventh inning, Alex Parys came through for Lake Mills on Tuesday, April 9 at Cambridge High School.

    Parys hit an RBI single to score Wyatt Werner and give Lake Mills a 5-4 lead. In the bottom of the seventh, Parys caught the final out, a line drive off the bat of Cambridge sophomore Jett Horton, to give Lake Mills a 5-4 win over the Cambridge baseball team.

    Lake Mills scored four of its five runs in the top of the third inning. Jack Vogel scored Parys on an RBI single, Brody Henderson hit a two-run triple to score Vogel and Ty Schaefer and Henderson then scored off a sacrifice fly out from Cooper Murphy.

    For Cambridge, junior Clayton Stenjem drove in senior Marco Damiani on an RBI groundout and junior Will Reese scored on a passed ball in the third.

    In the fourth, senior Carter Lund scored on a passed ball and senior Devin Schuchart scored on an error. Horton pitched a complete game for Cambridge, recording two strikeouts.
