    Deerfield/Cambridge cross country: Girls win Cam-Rock for third-straight year, boys take 17th

    For the third-straight season, the Deerfield/Cambridge girls cross country team has won their home meet.

    The co-op finished in first place on Thursday, Sept. 5 at the Cam-Rock Invite, finishing with a score of 36 points. Lakeside Lutheran was the next closest team with 101 points.

    The girls team was led by junior Emme Drobac, who won the invite for the second-straight year.

    Drobac won the race in 17 minutes and 39.91 seconds, finishing two minutes ahead of Edgewood’s Erin Schauer (19:42.89) for first place. Drobac’s time set a new team record at Cam-Rock Park by over 30 seconds.

    Finishing behind Drobac and Schauer was Deerfield/Cambridge senior McKenna Michel, who took third at 19:59.05.

    Senior Piper Ryan (20:43.41) and freshman Vienna Olson (20:46.09) finished in the top 10 by placing seventh and eighth. Sophomore Madi Ledbury (21:49.27) scored 17th overall. All five varsity runners received a medal.

    The Deerfield/Cambridge boys team finished 17th with 379 points. Senior James Leonard (19:37.42) led the co-op with a 54th-place finish.

    Sophomore Max Helminiak (19:54.02) ran 61st, senior Evan Roidt (20:02.84) scored 69th, senior Thomas Conner (21:15.39) placed 92nd and sophomore Paul Czerniak Jr. (22:53.55) took 103rd.

    Dodgeville/Mineral Point won the boys race with 57 points. Dodgeville/Mineral Point’s Layne Aurit took first place at 16:15.69.
