Prosecutor: Grand jury will consider case against suspects arrested during hotel drug bust

CAMBRIDGE − Guernsey County Prosecutor Lindsey Angler said suspects arrested during a July 10 drug bust at a local hotel that yielded drugs and suspected counterfeit checks and cash are now awaiting a grand jury for possible indictment on multiple charges.

“We can’t give anything else right now,” said Angler, who noted the case was still considered an ongoing investigation.

According to the Guernsey County Sheriff’s Office, on the morning of July 10, deputies, with the assistance of the Guernsey County Special Response Team, executed three search warrants at a Cambridge area hotel. A female was arrested for multiple outstanding, high-level felony warrants out of multiple counties in Ohio. A male suspect was also arrested. Names are being withheld pending the ongoing investigation.

Suspected methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia, numerous items used to produce counterfeit checks and U.S. currency, and a “large amount” of suspected counterfeit checks and U.S. currency, were located and seized, per the sheriff's office.

“It’s not every day we see this type of stuff in Guernsey County; however, I have my team equipped with whatever necessary to conduct and execute these types of investigations,” Guernsey County Sheriff Jeff Paden said in a news release. “If you come to this county with a feeling that you’re safe conducting these activities, you’re sadly mistaken. As these two individuals can tell, it didn’t take long for my team to catch on to them and take them down.”

Sgt. Bill Patterson of the Guernsey County Sheriff’s Office, whose team was part of the warrant execution, said he’s not surprised to see large-scale crimes like this during economic downturns.

“When the country is in tough times, we start to see people turn to these types of actions to make ends meet,” he said. “But that’s no excuse to commit a crime.”
