If one word had to describe the season Cambridge senior Carter Lund had, it would be dominant.

On the mound, Lund went 6-1 with an ERA of 0.95. Lund recorded 69 strikeouts in 44 innings of work, including throwing two no-hitters against Wisconsin Heights and New Glarus.

In the batter’s box, Lund recorded a .394 batting average with 22 RBIs and five homers. Lund also scored 14 runs, had 16 stolen bases and recorded eight walks.

For the strong season, Lund was named “Player of the Year” in the Capitol South Conference, earning a spot on the all-conference first team.

Along with the conference honors, Lund was named “Player of the Year” in the South Central District, a region representing players from Division 1 to Division 4 in the Madison area. Lund earned second team all-district honors as a pitcher.

“We knew coming into this season, he was going to be our ace,” said Cambridge head coach Larry Martin. “For him to be the threat he was in the middle of the lineup too is what catapulted him to “Player of the Year” status in our conference.”

The Cambridge baseball team also had two other seniors get named to the all-conference first team.

Senior Owen Bernhardt, an academic all-district recipient, was named to the all-conference first team and received honorable mention honors for all-district as an outfielder.

Bernhardt ended the year with a .307 batting average and two home runs. Bernhardt also had two triples, 17 RBIs, eight stolen bases and only committed two errors in the field.

“The big thing I campaigned for in his candidacy was his defense,” said Martin. “In our conference, they only had three extra base hits against us, and those were in the first two games, so that’s a credit to the outfield. As the center fielder, he’s the leader of that outfield.”

Senior Marco Damiani also earned first team all-conference honors and was named as an honorable mention on the all-district team.

As an infielder, Damiani recorded a 94% fielding rate, while recording a .427 batting average in the batter’s box. Damiani knocked in 15 runs, leading the team with 32 hits and stole 12 bases.

“He just carried us early in the season,” said Martin. “He was getting two to three hits a game constantly while the rest of our offense was getting started.”

Junior Kiefer Parish was also named honorable mention for the all-district team and was selected to the all-conference first team as well.

Parish led the Blue Jays with 16 steals, hitting for a .338 batting average. Parish hit two home runs, drove in 12 runs and had 25 hits.

Junior Clayton Stenjem earned second team all-conference as a pitcher. Stenjem pitched over 43 innings, recording a 4-1 record with one save.

Stenjem recorded a 1.78 ERA and had 40 strikeouts. At the plate, Stenjem hit for a .353 batting average and recorded 16 RBIs.

Sophomore Jett Horton was named to the all-conference second team as an infielder. Horton recorded a .264 batting average with 11 RBIs.

On the mound, Horton recorded a 2.69 ERA in over 28 innings pitched. Horton went 3-2 with 26 strikeouts.

Senior Gavin Winslow was also named to the all-conference second team. Winslow scored 10 runs, went 5-5 on stolen-base attempts and recorded a .163 batting average.

“He was able to provide us with some quality at-bats in a spot in the lineup that we needed,” said Martin. “We had seen that from open gyms and practices since the beginning of the year and it translated well to games.”

Seniors Devin Schuchart, Brayden Lund and Carter Stenjem were named to the all-conference teams as honorable mentions.

Carter Stenjem recorded a 97% fielding rate, while Schuchart recorded seven RBIs. Brayden Lund hit for a .274 batting average, drove in 11 runs and had one triple.

The Cambridge baseball team ended up with 10 players earning all-conference recognition.

“It’s just a reflection of how well we played the last couple of years as a team, the respect that the other coaches have in conference for our players and a recognition for how they played and how they do it the right way,” said Martin.
