Cambridge home talent wins on 4th of July against Lake Mills

CAMBRIDGE - - After Jared Marty led off the bottom of the fifth inning with a triple, Sam Mickelson drove him in on an RBI groundout, giving the Cambridge Blues a 2-1 lead.

From there, the flood gates opened as Cambridge scored seven more runs in that inning and added another eight runs in the next inning, earning a 17-1 win over the Lake Mills Grays on Thursday at Cambridge High School.

In the eight-run fifth, Tyler Kledzik hit a two-run single to score Tyler Carlson and Chase Jarlsberg. Kledzik, along with Connor O’Brien, then scored on a two-run single from Carter Lund.

Lund, Logan Koch and Marty also came around to score in the inning. Kledzik and Mickelson both drove in three runs for Cambridge, while Lund and Jake Willey recorded two RBIs.

Tyler Carlson, O’Brien and Marty each added an RBI. For Lake Mills, Jasper Meeker scored Payton Klettke on an RBI single in the fourth which gave Lake Mills a brief 1-0 lead.

In the bottom of the fourth inning, Jarlsberg scored on a throwing error to tie the game at 1-1. Sam Mickelson earned the win for Cambridge, pitching seven innings with eight strikeouts.

For Lake Mills, Caleb Housner earned the start, pitching over three innings with one unearned run allowed in a no-decision. Housner held Cambridge scoreless over the first three innings.

Cambridge is 7-1 overall and 4-1 in the Southeast North standings.
