Cats spear Sharks, 24-10
On a rainy Saturday evening on the Main Line, Villanova used an effective running game and strong, team defensive effort to earn a solid victory over LIU. The Cats set the tone early when on their opening drive they advanced the ball 84 yards on 13 plays to run 6:55 off the clock and set up an Ethan Gettman field goal. LIU was unable to drive the ball effectively against the Wildcats until late in the game - finding the end zone early in the fourth quarter and tacking on a field goal with 6:33 to play. The late scoring outburst never put the outcome of the game in question but made the final score a little deceptive given the extent to which the Wildcats controlled the action. Positives for 'Nova included: winning the turnover battle, consistency and effectiveness in the running game, defensive effort and discipline.
