Willie Nelson, the iconic country music legend known for his distinctive voice, long braids, and love for weed, is taking his annual 4th of July Picnic on the road this year. For over four decades, Nelson has been hosting this Independence Day concert, which has become a staple event in the country music calendar. This year, however, the picnic is straying away from its Texas roots and heading to the Freedom Mortgage Pavilion in Camden, New Jersey.

The move marks a significant change for the event, which has been held in Texas since 2010 (with the exception of virtual concerts in 2020 and 2021). The decision to move the picnic to the Philadelphia area is a historic one, as it is the first time the event will take place in this region. The change in location comes with a star-studded lineup, featuring music legends such as Bob Dylan, Robert Plant & Alison Krauss, Maren Morris, Mavis Staples, and Celisse.

"I am thrilled to bring the 4th of July Picnic to Philadelphia for the first time in our storied history," said Nelson in a press release. "It's an honor to host such an extraordinary lineup of talent in the birthplace of our country. We can't wait to celebrate Independence Day with you."

The 4th of July Picnic has a rich history dating back to 1973 when Nelson launched the event in Dripping Springs, Texas. Inspired by the Dripping Springs Reunion he played in 1972, Nelson wanted to create a concert that celebrated American music and culture. Over the years, the picnic has grown into a multi-day festival, attracting thousands of fans from across the country.

This year's picnic promises to be one of the biggest yet, with a lineup that includes some of the biggest names in music who are also joining Nelson on his tour. Bob Dylan, who has joined the picnic for a couple of shows in the past, will also be performing at all 26 stops on Nelson's Outlaw Music Festival Tour. Joining them on the tour will be Robert Plant & Alison Krauss, John Mellencamp, Billy Strings, Brittney Spencer, Celisse, and Southern Avenue.

Dylan's participation in the entire tour is a rare occurrence, as the legendary musician typically prefers to perform in intimate settings. However, his friendship with Nelson goes back several decades, and the two have shared the stage on numerous occasions. They co-wrote the song "Heartland" together in 1993, and in the summer of 2004, they played minor league baseball parks together across America.

The 4th of July Picnic is not just a music festival; it's a celebration of American culture and independence. With its move to Philadelphia and its star-studded lineup, this year's picnic promises to be a historic event that music fans won't want to miss. Tickets for the event are already on sale, and with such an incredible lineup, they're sure to sell out fast. So mark your calendars and get ready to celebrate Independence Day with Willie Nelson and some of the biggest names in music!
