Beryl Brings Tropical Watches to the Valley
HARLINGEN, Texas (ValleyCentral) — Tropical Storm Beryl has emerged into the Bay of Campeche. It is expected to restrengthen to Hurricane status by Sunday afternoon. The latest Cone of Uncertainty from the National Hurricane Center has shifted even further east, indicating the storm will likely make landfall north of the Valley.
The Shark Is Gone But South Padre Island Beachgoers Warned To Still Be Wary
State game wardens say officials were able to physically move out of the area the shark that attacked four people in shallow waters off of South Padre Island on the 4th of July. According to a spokesman for the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, the shark was harnessed and pulled back into deep waters.
Homicide suspect at large
The primary suspect in a 2013 double murder was recently added to the Cameron County Sheriff’s Top 10 Most Wanted list. According to the Cameron County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO), on Jun. 20, 2013, the deceased bodies of Homero de Los Santos and Lorena Gonzalez were discovered at a residence at the 2300 block of Hwy. 281 in the vicinity of El Ranchito/La Paloma, just outside the San Benito city limits.

Hurricane Beryl has already set records and wreaked havoc on tropical islands south of the Gulf of Mexico. However, the storm continues to progress further toward the United States and Mexico coastlines, weaking and restrengthening as it approaches Texas. Community continues to mourn Cascos
The community is mourning the loss of Carlos Cascos, former Cameron County Judge and Texas Secretary of State, who passed away at the age of 71. Cascos died from cardiac arrest following a car accident on South Padre Island, related to ongoing health issues.
