A couple has been arrested by the Cameron County Sheriff’s Office for reportedly leaving their children unattended outside. A couple, Joey Lee Barrientos and Alexis Angel Gonzalez, both in their early twenties, have been taken into custody. They are facing charges of abandoning or endangering a child, with three counts each.
Cameron County Judge Issues Statement After SPI Shark Attacks
Cameron County Judge Eddie Trevino, Junior is confirming that at least two people were injured by shark bites at South Padre Island. Trevino released a statement last night saying two close encounters with a shark also happened at South Padre Thursday. He extended thoughts and prayers to those affected and thanked bystanders and first responders for offering aid to those injured. He added that the county was working with federal, state and local authorities to help protect local beachgoers.

News that Cameron County has received a State Department permit to build a new international bridge is welcome. The Flor de Mayo International Bridge will run from Flor de Mayo Avenue in Matamoros to West Alton Gloor Boulevard in northwest Brownsville, which is a heavy growth area. A man listed as one of the Cameron County Sheriff’s Office Most Wanted Fugitives was arrested early Saturday morning at a Brownsville bar, according to a news release.
