    Lady Yoe compete in Cameron Tourney

    The Lady Yoe volleyball team came away as consolation champs at their own tournament last week. The Lady Yoe finished the weekend with a record of 3-3 and were crowned  consolation champions.

    Cameron played three games on Friday, the first game was against the Milano Lady Eagles. The Lady Yoe were swept by Milano, losing the first set 25-22 and the second set 25-21. The second game was against the Granger Lady Lions, and Cameron swept Ganger 2-0.

    Cameron started the first set slowly as Granger scored the first three points. The Lady Yoe answered back and closed the gap with an ace by Saydi Wimmer (12) for a 4-3 deficit. Granger responded with a 3-0 run to lead 7-3.

    Cameron stayed alive with a kill by Ka’Sara Brooks (4) to make the score 8-4. The Lady Yoe continued to fight back with an ace by Kennedy Banks (11) for a 9-7 deficit.

    Cameron came back to tie the set at 10, then took the lead 11-10 on a huge block by Ava Magre (6). The Lady Yoe continued their momentum with a kill by Brooks to make it a 13-11 lead. Granger came back and tied the set at 15, but Cameron responded with a 3-0 run to go ahead 18-15. The Lady Yoe held tough with a big spike by Banks to make it a 21-16 lead, and they would win the first set 25-16.

    The first point of the second set went to Cameron. The Lady Yoe stayed ahead with a kill from Brooks for a 4-2 advantage. The set remained completely even as no team could gain much of an advantage over the other.

    The Lady Yoe came through with a big kill by Banks to take a 15-13 lead. Banks put the team on her back with a clutch ace for an 18-14 lead, and Cameron extended their lead to 21-14. Granger tried to rally back and made the score 22-18, but Cameron held strong to win the second set 25-19 on a kill by Brooks to win the match.

    Their final game of the day was a matchup with the Thorndale Lady Dogs. Cameron was swept by Thorndale 2-0, losing the first set 28-26 and the second set 25-20.

    Cameron played three more games on Saturday, the first game was against the Bosqueville Lady Bulldogs. The Lady Yoe were swept by Bosqueville, losing the first set 25-17 and the second set 25-12.

    The second game was against the Bartlett Lassies. Cameron swept Bartlett 2-0, winning the first set 25-9 and the second set 25-14. Liberty Alonzo was great with a kill, three assists and three digs. Mackenzie Mahan played very well with three assists, an ace and five digs. Saydi Wimmer was terrific with three kills, five assists, two aces and five digs. Ka’Sara Brooks was excellent with three kills, an assist, a half block, two aces, and two digs.

    Their final game of the weekend was against the Granger Lady Lions. Cameron swept Ganger 2-0, winning the first set 25-22 and the second set 25-21. Liberty Alonzo was great with eight assists and a dig. Saydi Wimmer also had a great game with six kills, five assists, and seven digs. Kennedy Banks was terrific with four kills, an assist, two aces and three digs. Ka’Sara Brooks had an amazing game with six kills, an assist, a block, two aces and seven digs.

    The Lady Yoe were back in action on Tuesday, Aug. 20, for a home game against the Bosqueville Lady Bulldogs. The Lady Yoe were swept by Bosqueville, losing the first set 25-12, the second set 25-17, and the third set 25-16.

    Up next, the Lady Yoe will be participating in an in-season tournament hosted by Rockdale. Game times are yet to be announced.
