    Lady Yoe finish 5-1 in Richards Tournament play

    The Lady Yoe had great success and finished the weekend with an impressive record of 5-1 at the Richards Tournament last weekend.

    The Lady Yoe played three games on Thursday, the first game was a matchup with the Bartlett Lassies. Cameron swept Bartlett 2-0, winning the first set 25-12 and the second set 25-14. Their second game was against the Crockett Lady Bulldogs. Cameron handily defeated Crockett 2-0, winning the first set 25-12 and the second set 25-5.

    Kennedy Banks played terrific with four kills, four aces, and three digs. Ka’Sara Brooks played strong, recording 11 kills, a block, and an ace. Liberty Alonzo had an outstanding game with 20 assists and four aces. Their final game of the day, the Lady Yoe played the Richards Lady Panthers JV team. Cameron obliterated them 2-0, winning the first set 25-7 and the second set 25-3.

    After taking a break on Friday, the Lady Yoe played three more matches on Saturday, the first was against the Trinity Lady Tigers. The Lady Yoe demolished Trinity 2-0, winning the first set 25-7 and the second set 25-6. Their next game was a contest against the Lady Rams of Allen Academy. Cameron swept Allen 2-0, winning the first set 25-14 and the second set 25-17. Bailey Anderle played great, recording nine assists and two digs. Saydi Wimmer was incredible with seven kills, two assists, and five digs. Ka’Sara Brooks had an unstoppable game, recording seven kills, an assist, a block and a half, an ace, and two digs.

    Their final game of the weekend was against the host team Richards Lady Panthers. Cameron was swept 2-0 to finish the tournament in second place, losing the first set 25-13 and the second set 26-24. The Lady Yoe returned home to host the Milano Lady Eagles on Tuesday September 3. Cameron was defeated by Milano, losing 3-1.

    The first four points of the first set were scored by Cameron, then Milano rallied back and tied the set at 4. Cameron halted their momentum with a kill by Kennedy Banks (11) for a 5-4 lead. The Lady Yoe performed well on defense with a big block by Ava Magre (6) to make it a 10-7 lead, then Milano clawed back and forged ahead 11-10.

    Cameron took back the lead 12-11, then extended it with an ace by Saydi Wimmer (12) to make the score 13-11. The Lady Eagles refused to go away and tied the set at 14. The Lady Yoe went ahead with a kill by Wimmer to take a 16-15 lead.  Cameron remained aggressive with an ace by Ka’Sara Brooks (4) to take a 21-19 lead. Milano tried to come back once again, but was shut down with a block by Magre for a 24-22 lead and Cameron won the first set 25-22.

    Cameron started the second set strong, scoring the first three points. The Lady Yoe stayed aggressive on defense with a block from Crystal Daniels (7) and Brooks for a 5-2 lead. Milano marched right back with an 8-2 run to lead 10-7. Cameron broke the drought with a block by Magre to make it a 10-8 deficit. Cameron trailed 14-10, but the Lady Yoe responded with two straight points including an ace by Liberty Alonzo (1) to close the gap to 14-12. The rest of the set remained even until Milano pulled away late to win the second set 25-22.

    The first point of the third set went to Cameron. The Lady Eagles responded with a big surge to go ahead of Cameron 9-4, then grew their lead over the Lady Yoe to double digits at 16-6. Cameron still continued to fight with a block from Brooks and Banks for a 20-12 deficit. The Lady Yoe tried to rally back, but it wasn’t enough and they would lose the third set 25-18. Milano kept up their momentum and scored the first four points of the fourth set and pulled away to lead 9-2.

    Cameron closed the gap with a kill by Brooks to make it a 10-4 deficit, then Milano responded with a 5-1 run to lead 15-5. Cameron fell to Milano in the fourth set 25-7. With this loss, Cameron has a record of 12-9.

    Up next, the Lady Yoe will stay home to host the Bruceville-Eddy Lady Eagles. The game will be on Friday, Sept. 6, and varsity will begin at 4:30 p.m.
