Yoemen still struggling in district play
The Cameron Yoemen baseball team hosted the Little River Academy Bumblebees on Friday, April 5. Cameron was defeated by Academy, losing 14-9. The Bumblebees jumped on Cameron early with three runs in the top of the first inning to take an early 3-0 lead. Cameron answered back in the bottom of the first inning with two runs of their own to close the gap to 3-2. Bulldogs easily defeat Granger, Rosebud-Lott
The Thorndale Bulldogs baseball team traveled to take on the Granger Lions on Friday, March 22. Thorndae shutout Granger, winning 16-0 in five innings and in a game where they scored in every inning. The Bulldogs jumped on Granger early in the top of the first inning with four runs and never looked back. The Cameron Lady Yoe softball team traveled to take on the Rockdale Lady Tigers on Saturday, March 9. The Lady Yoe shut out Rockdale, winning 9-0. County discusses moving tax collection to MCAD
Milam County Commissioners discussed a possible change in the handling of tax collections for the county during Monday’s Commissioners Court meeting. They heard a presentation from Milam County Chief Appraiser Ryan Nichols suggesting that collections be done out of his office. The proposal would move tax collections from the tax office to the appraisal district and save the county money in salaries. County Judge Bill Whitmire said he doesn’t think it is a good idea to make that type of move while the county is in the process of electing a new Tax Assessor. Milam County 4-H successful at San Antonio Stock Show
Milam County 4-Hers had an outstanding trip to the San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo. In the steer show, Kenzie Hobbs exhibited the Reserve Champion Brahman Steer. Logan Hodgson placed 8th in class with his other cross steer in what was the hardest class of the entire week. In the breeding sheep show, Alfred McDaniel placed in the top 10 in extremely competitive, and large classes of White Dorper sheep. We look forward to continued success as we enter March competing at the stock shows in Houston and Austin.
Texas wildfires impacting Panhandle ranchers but not cattle, beef prices
Wildfires in the Texas Panhandle caused significant cattle losses for individual ranchers, but should not impact beef cattle markets or consumers, according to a Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service expert. David Anderson, Ph.D., AgriLife Extension economist in the Texas A&M Department of Agricultural Economics, Bryan-College Station, said it may be weeks before there are estimates for lost cattle, but he expects the impact of the wildfire to be localized. The Cameron Yoemen baseball team hosted an in-season tournament last weekend. Cameron had great success and finished the tournament with a record of 3-1. The Yoemen played one game on Thursday against the Elgin Wildcats JV team. Cameron was dominant, winning 15-2. The Yoemen got on the scoreboard first in the bottom of the first inning with five runs. Over the weekend of Feb. 15-17, the Cameron Lady Yoe softball team participated in an in-season tournament hosted by Thrall. The Lady Yoe finished the weekend with a record of 3-1. Cameron played two games on Thursday, the first game coming against the Somerville Lady Yeguas. Cameron shut out Somerville, winning 5-0. Franklin ends Yoe basketball playoff run
The Cameron Yoemen basketball team traveled to College Station on Tuesday night for the Bi-District round of the playoffs. They took on a familiar playoff opponent in the Franklin Lions, and were defeated 50-47 in a game that went down to the final seconds. Cameron started the game strong with a floater by Kason Goolsby (3) for an early 4-2 lead. Goolsby added to that with a three pointer to push the score to 7-2. Yoe wrestlers compete at district meet
The Cameron Yoe wrestling team traveled to Georgetown Thursday, Jan. 25, and Friday, Jan. 26, to participate in the district meet hosted by East View High School. Everyone in JV won at least one match. Marbel Reducindo placed third, Theoden young was third and Bruce Jacoby finished in fourth. Ricardo Reyes, Ethan Jacoby, and Byron Crittendon also won matches but did not place. As for varsity, Brady Havens finished fifth, Tashawn Perez finished fifth, and Adawnia Young placed fourth. “Overall we wrestled better than ever this entire season,” Said Coach Dale Keen. “We have 13 schools in our district and it is a tough district.” Brady and Tashawn were named as alternates for regionals.

Rhoades announces retirement, CISD looking for new AD
Yoe High will be looking for a new athletic director and head coach after State Champion Coach Rick Rhoades announced his retirement last week. Rhoades first set foot in Cameron for his first coaching stint in 2009 and was there until 2015. The first thing that attracted him to Cameron was the size of the school. “When I came in 2009, I had two children in high school and two in junior high,” Rhoades said. “It was very important to me that they would get the opportunity to be involved in many sports and activities and a school the size of Cameron...

Twenty-one Milam County 4-H members competed at the Central Texas Consumer Decision Making Contest on Saturday, Jan. 27, in Gatesville. We are extremely proud of our top senior team (Nationals team) and individual who placed first place overall. Our top senior individual was Macy McDaniel who won first place and a $500 scholarship. Bulldogs defeat Holland, Kovar gets to 1,000 points
The Thorndale Bulldogs basketball team traveled to take on the Holland Hornets on Friday, Feb. 2. Thorndale defeated Holland, winning 44-38. Kaden Kovar had a great game with 14 points, seven rebounds, and four assists. Jacob Jackson was also great with 13 points and five rebounds. Braden Pickel was fantastic awith eight points and 10 rebounds. The Bulldogs returned home on Friday, Feb. 6, to host the Hearne Eagles. Thorndale was dominant over Hearne, winning 59-27. It was also a special day for Kaden Kovar, as he surpassed 1,000 career points. With this victory, Thorndale now has aa record of 27-3 and a perfect district record of 10-0 and is ranked #6 in the state in 2A in the TABC polls. Yoemen to face familiar foes after UIL redistricting
The Yoemen will remain in a district with familiar faces next season in football, volleyball and basketball. Starting next year for the 2024-2025 season, the Cameron Yoemen and Lady Yoe sports team will be having a new set of district opponents. As of now, the UIL has posted the new district reclassification and realignment for football, basketball, and volleyball. Cameron will not switch conferences and will remain in 3A.
