MARSHALL COUNTY, W.Va. ( WTRF ) – The City of Cameron’s Mayor Greg Gallentine was presented with a $350,000 check form the Marshall County Commissioners this morning for their Phase III Water Systems Improvement Project.

Without the commissions support, Cameron would not have been able to put the project out to bid.

The project is about $4.4 million and will help their Public Service District replace and repair old, deteriorated water lines.

The city has been working on this project for the last 10 years, and Mayor Gallentine says it’s vital for the residents of Cameron.

“Two particular areas that we are focusing on are lines that have never been replaced in the city of Cameron not being able avenue, Hillcrest, Highland Avenue, 250 North, as well as two new storage tanks within the city. We have a great working relationship with the county Commission, with all three commission with what? The county administrator. They’ve helped us on different things.”

Marshall County Commissioner President, Mike Ferro, says he and the other two commissioners have always been “big fans of infrastructure projects” especially water and sewer projects.

“Cameron has been working diligently on this for the last several years, and it’s a credit to Mayor Greg Gallentine and the diligence he actually provided in getting this thing done. It’s a $4.4 million project. This was the last piece of the puzzle. Had we not provided the $350,000, Cameron would have lost out on about $3 million for this project and the project would not have would not have taken.”

Mayor Gallentine says this project will create a low-rate increase for residents, adding that this project will also increase the quality of life for Cameron.

This project will provide almost 65 new water meters, new service lines, hydrants and various valves.

For the web: Lines will also be replaced along U.S. 250 North, including 8,400 linear feet of 2-inch to 6-inch water lines.

According to a press release provided by Marshall County Administrator, Betsy Frohnapfel, this Phase III funding package includes awards from: Drinking Water Treatment Revolving Fund Forgiveness Loan, WV Water Development Authority (EEGF) Grant, WV IJDC Grant and Marshall County Commission. The City of Cameron has put $50,000 of their ARPA Funds into the project as well. Bel-O-Mar Regional Council is administering the financial package.
