An Alabama man was killed Saturday afternoon when the vehicle in which he was riding as a passenger struck a tree and flipped over, state troopers said.

The single-vehicle crash occurred at approximately 4:18 p.m. Saturday, and claimed the life of a Camp Hill, Alabama, man.

Cecil T. Tinsley, 66, was fatally injured when the 2005 Lexus ES330 in which he was a passenger left the roadway and struck a tree before overturning.

The Lexus was driven by Christol L. Slaughter, 39, of Camp Hill. Tinsley was not using a seat belt and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Slaughter was not using a seat belt and was transported to UAB Hospital, in Birmingham. A 4-year-old juvenile passenger was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

The crash occurred on Alabama 50 near the 14 mile marker, approximately 6 miles south of Camp Hill, in Tallapoosa County.
