Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum Wins National Award for Exhibit
SPRINGFIELD – The Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum has won a national “Leadership in History” award for its exhibit exploring the many ways and reasons that people have made Illinois their home over the centuries. The exhibit, “Here I Have Lived: Home in Illinois,” is now available online so that people anywhere in the world can explore the lives of immigrants, Native Americans, future presidents and social activists.

Mayor pushing back on property tax hikes A group of northern Illinois mayors are pushing back after resident’s property tax bills skyrocketed. Harvey Mayor Christopher Clark is included and is pursuing efforts to address the surging property tax bills. Clark said Harvey was one of 15 south suburban communities that saw increases of 30% or more in property taxes. (The Center Square) – Despite opposition, a bill that creates a Certified Medication Aide program passed both chambers of the Illinois Legislature and awaits the governor's signature. Opponents fear it could further burden nurses and mean fewer jobs for Black registered nurses. Senate Bill 1779 seeks to create a “certified medication aide” program. Quincy’s Freedom Fest kicked off Thursday afternoon in Clat Adams Park on the riverfront. Several local businesses set up booths. Several bands performed, and visitors had their choice of several Fourth of July treats. The festival also featured a car and bike show, games for children and a reading of the Declaration of Independence. The evening ended with a fireworks show. Samantha Carmean captured some of the activity in the park on Thursday.
