Police looking for stolen food truck

CAMPBELL, Ohio (WKBN) — Police are looking for a food truck that was stolen last week.

Reports said the owner of the truck called police at about 10:05 a.m. Wednesday from the 2200 block of Wilson Avenue, where he said he parks his trailer, which doubles as a food truck. When he showed up Wednesday morning, the trailer was gone.

“It’s crazy someone stole it. Why would you steal a food truck?” said Brian Gatewood, the owner of Food on the Moove food truck.

Reports said surveillance footage from a business across the street showed someone hook the trailer up to a vehicle about 2 a.m. that morning and drive away west on Wilson Avenue.

Inside the trailer are four friers, two grills, a stove, a microwave and a refrigerator, reports said.

Gatewood first purchased the food truck in April, and he has been using it at several events, like Jazz in the Park. He had been working alongside his uncle.

“I had a whole bunch of other things lined up in July and August to do events. I was having fun,” he said.

The Campbell Police Department is investigating but doesn’t have many leads other than grainy surveillance video.

“This particular case is frustrating because we don’t have any identifying features on the trailer. They could’ve repainted the trailer by now,” said Detective Christopher Carson.

The trailer is described as red and black and had the words “In The Truck Eatery” and “Food On The Moore” inscribed on it.

Carson said the case is even more troublesome because the food truck itself is the crux of the business.

“It’s hard to see someone lose their business. It’s putting them in a hardship because you spend good money on these things. For someone to come by and take it is terrible,” he said.

Meanwhile, Gatewood says he’s down but not out and that nothing is going to stop him from his passion.

“To have to go through all of that over again is sickening. Just because someone [doesn’t] respect other people’s property, I’m not going to let someone destroy my spirit or break me. Another food truck will be opening back up in a couple of months,” he said.

Anyone who sees the food truck should contact Campbell police.

Police are also asking other local businesses along Wilson Avenue that have cameras to turn over their footage to assist in their investigation.
