Neither movie was set in upstate New York, but given the violent storms our region has seen this month, one might be forgiven for imagining a future such movie telling a story rooted in Western or Central New York.It used to be that wintry weather kept Democrat and Chronicle journalists the busiest, but this year, it's been summer storms that have proved alarming. Man dead after crash on Route 20 in Hancock, MA
A Stephentown man is dead after a crash on Route 20 in Hancock, MA just past the New York-Massachusetts border, according to our partners at the Berkshire Eagle. Recently, July 16, New York Governor Kathy Hochul announced a record State investment of nearly $51 million for public safety on Long Island. Nassau County agencies received $1,494,692 and Suffolk County agencies received $1,307,677 for the GIVE funding cycle that runs from July 1, 2024, through June 30, 2025. This funding also includes approximately $21.1 million in one-time capital funding to 39 police departments and sheriffs’ offices – including $387,042 for the purchase of law enforcement technology and equipment to allow those agencies more effectively solve, reduce and prevent crime.
