UPDATE (6/6/24) — A former Canadian County Sheriff's deputy who was arrested on a second degree rape charge last year pleaded guilty to one of his three charges in a federal investigation.

FOX23 reported Wesley Wayne Hunter, 28, of Yukon, was arrested on a second degree rape charged in August of 2023.

Hunter is charged with aggravated sexual abuse, deprivation of rights and falsification of records.

According to court records, he pleaded guilty to only the falsification of records charge.

Court documents say at the time of his sentencing, it will be decided whether or not the other two charges will be dropped.

Hunter could face up to 20 years in prison and be ordered to pay $250,000.

FOX23 is working to learn his sentencing date.

"The Government's Superseding Indictment alleged that on July 20, 2023, while on duty in his official capacity as a Canadian County Sheriff's Deputy, Hunter purposefully deactivated the mobile tracking system on his work phone, altering and falsifying the official record of his activities," the United States Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of Oklahoma announced on Thursday.

As part of his guilty plea, Hunter admitted to deactivating the mobile tracking system while he was transporting a woman from Bryan County to Canadian County before driving his patrol car off the transport route.

"Hunter further admitted he did this to conceal and impede any future investigation into his subsequent criminal misconduct," the announcement said.
