CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. (WROC) – RG&E no longer needs residents to conserve their energy to assist in power restoration throughout the area.

RG&E asked Canandaigua residents for conservation efforts Tuesday afternoon as crews continued to clean up areas in Canandaigua after severe storms ripped through the city Monday.

“Those who live on the west side of the lake from Butler Road going north, this impacts about 900 customers. We are asking them to reduce their usage. We are asking people to turn off their AC util 9 p.m. tonight. At 9 p.m. they can resume their usage we are hoping things cool off a bit and they can resume that usage from 9 p.m. to 8 a.m. We want to do this so we can prevent having to create an outage that would disrupt service through tomorrow night,” RG&E representative Alexis Arnold said.

Sixteen utility poles along Eastern Boulevard were snapped or knocked down, as well as toppled and cracked trees along the shores of Canandaigua Lake.

It was later confirmed almost 24 hours later that Tuesday that a tornado did touchdown in Canandaigua as the storms passed through the area.

The tornado was tracked to have traveled 0.7 miles with maximum wind of 75 mph.

Meteorologist Leanne Byer visited an area on Eastern Boulevard near Roseland Waterpark where over a dozen electric poles snapped and crashed in the area, leaving many including the waterpark without power.

Was Canandaigua hit by a tornado?

RG&E says crews are working to replace the poles and the majority of customers in that area can expect to have their power restored by Thursday afternoon.
