Seven additional New York Big Lots locations will close this year as the discount retailer struggles with a tough consumer market, including the Canandaigua location and two in Western New York.

Three others — two in Long Island and one north of Albany — were said to be closing in New York according to the company's website last month , bringing the current total to 10 stores shutting their doors statewide.

In a filing to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission last month, Big Lots said it planned to close 35 to 40 stores this year and open three. The company reported 1,392 operating stores at the beginning of 2024, down from 1,425 in the first quarter of 2023.

"In 2024, the U.S. economy has continued to face macroeconomic challenges including elevated inflation, which has adversely impacted the buying power of our customers," the filing from Big Lots said.
