The Canby cross country program enters the 2024 season on a solid foundation, returning eight of its 14 varsity runners that competed in last season’s Northwest Oregon Conference Championships.

Both teams retained four of their best seven runners from last season. On the boys side, seniors Andrew Dewar and Aiden Lucas, junior Corbin Stoddart and sophomore Jaycob Aguas return. The quartet helped the Cougars finish third at the conference championships and qualify for the state championships.

Dewar has recorded the fastest personal best at 16 minutes, 25.30 seconds. Stoddart’s behind him at 16:39.20, followed by Aguas at 17:28.30. Lucas’ personal best comes in at 18:33.80.

MacKenzie Bigej is the top returner on the girls side. Bigej was the NWOC champion and finished second overall at the state meet in 2023, boasting a personal best of 17:31.60.

Sophomore Emillia Ensrud has the Cougars’ second-fastest personal best at 23:05.10. Senior Monserrat Amezcua Frias is third at 23:48.40, while junior Maddie Skogman rounds out the group at 23:54.20.
