School has started and that means many high school students are beginning to think about their futures. For some, this means considering college.

The Oregon City Elks Lodge announced six local scholarships for Clackamas County high school students on Tuesday, Sept. 3. The six scholarships are divided evenly between men and women and total $12,000.

Any Clackamas County high school students may apply. The deadline is Tuesday, Nov. 12.

The local scholarships follow the same “Most Valuable Student” contest format as the National Elks Foundation’s scholarships.

The scholarships are based on academics, leadership and financial need. Students must be pursuing a four-year degree from a US college or university starting in the 2025-26 school year.

To apply, visit https://www.elks.org/scholars/scholarships/MVS.cfm and choose OREGON CITY ELKS LODGE 1189 as the sponsoring local lodge.

Applicants must be U.S. citizens and do not need to be related to an Elks member to apply. However, relatives of Elks members can apply for the Legacy Awards – $4,000 scholarships for the children and grandchildren of members. Legacy Awards are national awards with their own application and deadline on Monday, Feb. 3.
