Canfield wins Little League State Championship

BOARDMAN, Ohio (WKBN) – The Canfield 10U softball team wins the Ohio State Little League Championship in the Minor (8-10) Division against Wheelersburg 5-1 at the Fields of Dreams in Boardman, Monday afternoon.

The championship game was decided in a bonus ‘What if” game as Wheelersburg beat Canfield 2-0 in game 1, Monday morning.

The Cardinals scored four runs in the top of the 5th inning. Canfield’s Grace Carpenter scored the go-ahead run to start the 5th inning.

In the win, pitcher Lilly Barber struck out 9 batters in 6 innings. Cardinals 1st baseman Gabby Stack caught the final out to end the game.

Canfield plays next in the Little League Softball Central Region against the Wisconsin team, July 21 at 7 p.m. in Whitestown, Indiana.
