New Rec Center set to break ground in October

There will be a groundbreaking on October 17, according to Construction Manager agency Scott Taylor. Jaynes Corporation, the contractor building the rec center, will begin construction on the plot of land south of the Artesia Aquatic Center on October 21.

Nick Ferenchak likes his quiet — whether sleeping at night or hiking in the Sandia Mountains — and he has a plan to preserve his quietude from noisy vehicles. Ferenchak, an assistant professor in the Gerald May Department of Civil, Construction and Environmental Engineering at the University of New Mexico, is the president of Not-A-Loud, a local company that creates noise camera systems that take pictures of the license plates on vehicles that produce too many decibels. City of Gallup to mill streets starting July 8
The City of Gallup will be closing some streets around the city starting July 8. The project is expected to go on until July 26. Princeton Avenue from McKinley Drive to the end of the curb and Wilson Avenue from McKinley Drive to a dead end will be milled during that time. The mining is in advance of paving that will happen at a later date.
