MANCHESTER, Conn — A hot summer has kept a busy pace for the 60 lifeguards working at the five public swimming areas in Manchester. In addition to their usual job of looking over the pools in town, the lifeguards are put to the test. Every summer, the recreation department in Manchester collaborates with the fire department, the police department and the Ambulance Service of Manchester to put on “Live Audits” for the town lifeguards. Essentially, they hold surprise scenarios that test a lifeguard's skill.

DEM Announces Precautionary Closure of Prudence Island Shellfishing Area July 27 through August 3 ahead of Aquapalooza
PROVIDENCE, RI – The Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management (DEM) is announcing that due to the increased risk of accidental or illicit discharges of sewage from hundreds of boats gathering off Prudence Island that is expected this weekend, DEM is once again preemptively closing 700 acres of shellfish grounds on the north end of the island. The precautionary closure is from sunrise on July 27 until sunrise on August 3 and extends from the shoreline and all waters south and west of a line from Providence Point to the northwest extension of Warner Avenue on Prudence Island.

After a multi-jurisdictional investigation, East Greenwich police announcde Tuesday they had charged 42-year-old Jennifer Prezioso of East Greenwich with possessing narcotics. On Friday, July 19, investigators executed a court authorized search warrant at 634 South Rd., seizing narcotics, cash, and other items related to drug distribution.
