BURLINGTON, Conn. (WTNH) — Burlington & Canton Animal Control officials are hoping to find the owner of a dog they say was struck by a car on Route 44 after being abandoned in the woods.

Officials said the roughly 1-year-old, intact, male terrier mix was found in the woods near the intersection of Route 44 and Sterling Drive, on the Farmington River side. He had no collar, tags or microchip.

They said the pup was left in a crate with some food, but was able to escape. He was subsequently struck by a vehicle while trying to cross the road.

As of Wednesday afternoon, the dog was receiving medical care at the emergency Veterinary Center.

Anyone with information is asked to contact ACO Meskun (860) 960-6600 or Canton PD (860) 693-0221.
