Ten streets in Canton are expected to be resurfaced soon.

The Canton City Council unanimously voted March 7 to approve an intergovernmental agreement with Cherokee County to resurface 1.777 miles of road in Canton at an estimated cost of $523,683.12.

Roads that are expected to be resurfaced include Dogwood Street from Center Street to Elmwood Street; Elmwood Street from Center Street to the cul de sac; Birch Street from Juniper Street to Highland Street; Ivy Street from Center Street to Birch Street and from Birch Street to Alpine Street; Alpine Street from Juniper Street to Highland Street; Cross Street from Center Street to Birch Street; Center Street from Juniper Street to the dead end; and Highland Street from Alpine Street to Center Street and Center Street to Elmwood Street.

Cherokee County is working with the cities on a joint resurfacing project for 2024, according to city documents. Each city and the county are combining Local Maintenance and Improvement Grant projects into a single competitive bid to work towards intergovernmental cooperation, reduced mobilization prices, and potentially better bid results, according to city documents.

The bids are expected to be back this month and awarded by the Cherokee County Board of Commissioners at that time, according to the city.
