MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Kan. (KOAM) - An 18-year-old Independence man died Thursday morning, August 29, 2024, after his electric scooter collided with a pickup truck in downtown Independence, according to the Kansas Highway Patrol (KHP).

County rezones property north of town for local business
The Riley County commission on Thursday agreed to rezone a property north of Manhattan to allow a landscaping business to move onto it. Done Right Landscaping LLC will take over the plot at 6621 Tuttle Creek Boulevard after commissioners approved the request to rezone it from single-unit residential to a planned-unit development.
