    10 South Shore farmers markets to explore. Some with live music and family fun

    One of the staples of summer is the abundance of fresh produce grown locally and sold at farmers markets.

    In addition to the variety of fruits and vegetables, farmers markets also give local artisans and vendors a chance to sell their wares, from candles to dog treats. Some markets also offer entertainment and activities.

    Here are some of the farmers markets on the South Shore this summer:

    Braintree

    The Braintree Farmers Market takes place Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., June 15 to Oct. 12, at Town Hall Mall, 1 JFK Memorial Drive. The market has more than two dozen vendors each week, plus live music.

    Canton

    The Canton Farmers Market takes place Sundays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., June 16 to Oct. 20, at the Rodman Building, 960 Washington St. The market has dozens of vendors selling specialty foods, produce, baked goods and other items. There are also food trucks each week.

    Cohasset

    The Cohasset Farmers Market runs from 2 to 6 p.m. each Thursday, June 6 until Oct. 10, at 41 Highland Ave.

    Hanover

    The Hanover Farmers Market takes place on the third Sunday of the month, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., May 19 to Nov. 17, at Hanover High School, 287 Cedar St. In addition to several dozen vendors selling prepared foods, produce, meat and handmade products, the Anderson Gram Duo provides live music.

    Hingham

    The Hingham Farmers Market runs Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., May 4 to Nov. 23, at 195 Station St. There are more than two dozens vendors each week.

    The winter session, from Jan. 6 through March 30, is at the Wompatuck State Park Visitor Center, 204 Union St. The hours are 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

    Marshfield

    The Marshfield Farmers Market runs Fridays from 2 to 6 p.m., June 7 to Sept. 27, at the grandstands at the Marshfield Fairgrounds. The market hosts more than two dozen vendors and artisans, and often offers live music.

    The winter market runs October through May, on the third Saturday of each month, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

    Milton

    The Milton Farmers Market runs Thursdays from 1 to 6 p.m., June 1 to Oct. 12, in the park at 98 Wharf St. in Milton. The market has about 15 vendors selling everything from ice cream to bone broth.

    Quincy

    The Quincy Farmers Market is held Sundays from 12:30 to 4 p.m., June 30 to Oct. 27, at St. Chrysostom's Church at the intersection of Linden and Hancock streets. In operation since 1982, the market features more than a dozen vendors.

    Plymouth

    The Plymouth Farmers Market takes place Thursdays, 2:30 to 6 p.m., May 23 to October, at the Plymouth G Pub Entertainment Complex, 101 Carver Road.

    Weymouth

    The Weymouth Farmers Market takes place every other Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Tufts Library/Weston Park, 46 Broad St. The market features vendors, live music, food trucks and artisans. A special artisan fair is scheduled for 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday, July 28, with live music by Dylan Wheaton, and a kids day will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 11, with live music by Landline Revival.
