MONROE COUNTY — Over 19,700 votes were cast in our quest to find the top spot for ice cream in Monroe County. After all the ballots were counted and the last cone consumed, local favorite, Cups and Cones Ice Cream Parlor, was selected as the top spot for scoops, garnering 36.7% (7,254) of the vote and running away with the competition.
Peace-loving folk singer quits race against Oakland Sheriff Bouchard but stays on ballot
Amrit Kohli of Ferndale in no way resembles a cop. Clad in sandals and a George Floyd “Say his name!” t-shirt, the Nigerian-born Kohli is a software contractor but says he much prefers living his dream: folk singer and peace activist. He favors total change in policing, starting with the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office. If elected sheriff, he’d put a stop to what he says is racist law enforcement and the pursuit of non-violent offenders. And he’d “defund” the department, diverting money to mental-health programs.
Michigan man killed after thrown from motorcycle into traffic sign during crash
(CBS DETROIT) - A 39-year-old Oakland County man was killed in a motorcycle accident over the weekend, officials said. The incident happened at 2:42 a.m. on Saturday on Woodward Avenue at Osman Street in Pontiac.Authorities say the Waterford Township man was traveling north on Woodward Avenue while operating a 2010 Harley Davidson motorcycle.The man failed to negotiate a curve, and the motorcycle left the roadway. He was then thrown from the motorcycle and struck a traffic sign. He was taken to a local hospital, where he died from his injuries. The man allegedly was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, according to the Oakland County Sheriff's Office. In addition, it is unknown if alcohol was a factor in this crash. The man's identity is being withheld pending next of kin, authorities said.
