    July Fourth weekend fun. Hartville flea market, Italian-American Fest and First Friday

    1. Stark County Italian-American Festival

    Food and dancing will be featured Friday through Sunday at Centennial Plaza in downtown Canton during the Stark County Italian-American Festival .

    Activities also include a bocce tournament and casino games. Fireworks are scheduled for 9:30 p.m. Saturday.

    The Pennsylvania-based Allegro Dance Company will perform at 4:30 p.m. Saturday. Allegro specializes in the preservation and presentation of authentic Italian folk dances. They have performed across the United States and Italy for festivals, universities, parades and cultural events.

    Allegro also will be giving a free Tarantella workshop immediately after the performance. Tarantella is a group of southern Italian folk dances.

    Live music also will be featured, including Aaron Caruso at 6 p.m. and The Valletta Band at 7 p.m. Friday. Saturday's entertainers include the Tuscan Trio at noon and I Campagnoli at 3 p.m., as well as the Italian Dance Party featuring G4 Live Band and Cavalieri Reale at 6 p.m. on the Italian Stage. The Prince Project tribute band will be performing 8:30 to 11 p.m. on the main stage of Centennial Plaza.

    Sunday's events include mass at noon on the main stage. Entertainment includes Goodfellos at 1:30 p.m.; Le Fiamme at 3 p.m.; and E5C4P3: The Journey Tribute from 5 to 8 p.m.

    2. Fourth of July Flea Market in Hartville

    A 4th of July Flea Market will run Thursday through Saturday at Hartville Marketplace, 1289 Edison St. NW.

    The flea market will be spread over 12 acres. Items include comic books, vintage clothing and handmade goods. Concessions also will be available.

    The flea market opens at sunrise; the MarketPlace building opens at 7 a.m.

    3. First Friday in downtown Canton

    First Friday will be 5 to 9:30 p.m. July 5 in downtown Canton.

    Entertainment includes the Summer Concert Series, presented by Jerzee's Cafe, featuring Fool House Band beginning at 6 p.m. at Centennial Plaza, 330 Court Ave. NW.

    A Fourth Street dance party will be 5 to 9 p.m., hosted by Q92 DJ Nikolina.

    The Youth & Family Zones will be open 5 to 9 p.m. at Eric Snow YMCA, 420 Third St. NW. A dance party also is planned at the YMCA for children ages 12-17. Inflatables will be available for younger children for a charge of $10 per person.

    First Friday coincides with the Stark County Italian-American Festival downtown.

    Urban Honey , a local band playing a bluesy style of indie and classic rock, will be performing outside Gator's Joint , 235 Cleveland Ave. NW, during First Friday. Scott Paris will be performing acoustically 7 to 10 p.m. at The 19th Hole , 101 Central Plaza (Market Avenue and Tuscarawas Street). Paris plays '80s and '90s pop and rock.

    George's Lounge , 229 Cleveland Ave. NW, will feature live music by Katy Robinson starting at 6 p.m., followed by Hip to the Solo featuring Eddie Staats at 8 p.m.

    Art studios and galleries also will be hosting shows, including the Midsummer Monster Mayhem Art Exhibit at BZTAT Studios at Canton Creator Space , 730 Market Ave. S.

    The exhibit features pieces by Erin Mulligan, David Sherrill, Vicki Boatright, David Dingwell, David McDowell, Keeli Serri, Iszy Rucker, Brenda Case, Heather Dunlap and Lizzie Conrad.

    Monster Mayhem is on display through Aug. 23.

    The Hub Art Factory, 336 Sixth St. NW, will be featuring the "eye-popping and mind-bending sci-fit pop art" of Northeast Ohio artist Tony Contini . The Hub will be open 5 to 10 p.m. during First Friday festivities downtown.

    Strauss Studios , 236 Walnut Ave. NE, will present the work of artist John Thrasher from 6 to 9 p.m. in the upstairs gallery. Live music will be performed by Rat Lord at the back loading dock.

    Thrasher's work includes graphics, drawings and cards. He's also a professor in the Department of Art at the Mansfield campus of Ohio State University.

    Patina Arts Centre , 324 Cleveland Ave. NW, will open the exhibit "A Spirit of the Community" from 5 to 10 p.m.

    The art show, on display through July 27, is in collaboration with the African-American Arts Festival , which is 10 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. on July 20 at Centennial Plaza .

    Silo Arts Studio , 431 Fourth St. NW, will showcase the artwork of Drew Dudek and Sally Lytle from 5:30 to 9 p.m.

    "Vivid Visions: Expressive Realism" will celebrate traditional painting, expression and movement of paint.

    4. New Song concert in Minerva

    New Song, Geneva College's music and drama ministry group, will perform a free show at 7 p.m. Friday at Municipal Park stage in Minerva.

    The gospel singing and drama group travels across the country, and has also performed in Canada and China.

    New Song is directed by Lindsay Shaffer, Minerva High School and Geneva College alumna. Municipal Park is adjacent to the Minerva High School parking lot.

    5. 'The Godfather' trilogy at the Palace Theatre

    "The Godfather" trilogy will be shown Saturday and Sunday at Canton Palace Theatre, 605 Market Ave. N.

    The Palace is presenting the movies with the Stark County Italian-American Festival Foundation.

    Movies begin at 11 a.m. Saturday and Sunday. Doors open at 10:30 a.m.

    The second film starts at 3 p.m., followed by the third at 7:30 p.m.

    Single movies cost $5 or a pass for the trilogy is $10. Tickets can be purchased at https://cantonpalacetheatre.org/ or at the door.

    6. Canton Farmers Market and Studio Stroll

    The Canton Farmers Market will be 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday in downtown Canton.

    Local and area farmers, bakers, vendors and artisans will be selling their goods, including vegetables, fruits, meats, bread, honey, plants and flowers. Food trucks, children's activities and live music also will be featured.

    The market has a new location this summer and is based at 340 Fourth St. NW.

    New this weekend will be the Studio Stroll. Participating art studios and galleries will be Patina Arts Centre, 324 Cleveland Ave. NW; Silo Arts Studio, 431 Fourth St. NW; and The Hub Art Factory, 336 Sixth St. NW. Visiting all three art studios gives market goers the opportunity to win $50 to spend at the farmers market.

    A map for the Studio Stroll will be available at the Welcome Center.
