Who are T.I. and the Ying Yang Twins?

New to the weekend of activities is the hip-hop concert.

The Ying Yang Twins are comprised of Kaine and D-Roc.

Breaking onto the music scene in the early 2000s, the artists achieved mainstream notoriety when collaborating with Britney Spears on her album, "In the Zone" and the song "(I Got That) Boom Boom" in 2003, and with Lil Jon on "Get Low" the same year.

The Ying Yang Twins also gained popularity with their own songs, including "Salt Shaker," a catchy, beat-heavy club tune, which has racked up 100 million views on YouTube. Other popular songs include "Wait (The Whisper Song)" and "Badd." Earlier this year, the group released the song, "God's Calling Me."

Headlining the concert will be T.I. (born Clifford Harris), who is considered a pioneer in the hip-hop subgenre of trap music and Southern street rap. T.I. was dubbed "the JAY-Z of the South" by Pharrell Williams upon the release of the 2001 debut album, "I'm Serious," according to Apple Music.

Known for the songs "Whatever You Like" (garnering 77 million views on YouTube) and "Bring Em Out," T.I. (also known as TIP "T.I." Harris) boasts 21 million followers on Facebook. He's sold more than 10 million albums in the United States, according to T.I's website. Collaborations have included songs with Justin Timberlake and Drake.

T.I. is also an actor who appeared in Marvel's "Ant-Man" and "Ant-Man and the Wasp" movies.

T.I. established a formal charitable, social justice and philanthropic group, Harris Community Works , which is affiliated with Us or Else , a nonprofit organization founded by the rapper.

Earlier this year, a lawsuit was filed against T.I. and his wife Tameka (also known as Tiny) Harris alleging they drugged and sexually assaulted a woman they met in a Los Angeles nightclub in 2005, according to Billboard. The woman accuses the couple of sexual battery, battery, sexual assault, negligence, false imprisonment and intentional infliction of emotional distress, according to The New York Times.

In a statement to Billboard in January, T.I. and his wife “emphatically and categorically” denied the allegations and vowed to fight back against a lawsuit that they said the plaintiff had been threatening to file for years. The couple also called the civil suit a "shakedown," The New York Times reported.

"For three years we have maintained our innocence and refused to pay these extortionate demands for things we didn’t do," the couple told the media through an attorney.

Earlier this month, T.I. and Tiny Harris filed a motion in a California federal court to dismiss the lawsuit.

T.I. and the Ying Yang Twins were in Canton last summer

Both the Grammy-winning T.I. and the Ying Yang Twins performed last September at the Tacos & Tequila Music Fest at Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium, which was presented by the Hall of Fame Village .

T.I. was formerly a member of Pimp Squad Click , known for southern rap music. Songs include "Walk This Way," "Do Ya Thing" and "I'm a King." P$C and T.I. collaborated this year on the song, "Rico." T.I. is expected to join P$C on stage at the Canton concert, said a news release from the Black Promoters Collective.

Lloyd , meanwhile, is an R&B artist and soul singer.

Early in his career, he had chart success with the 2004 song, "Southside," a collaboration with Ashanti.

He's also worked with Rick Ross and 2 Chainz, as well as releasing the song "You" featuring Lil Wayne in 2006.

Civic Center wants to offer diverse entertainment

Blake Schilling, general manager of the Civic Center for ASM Global, said the concert is part of an effort to diversify entertainment offerings for the community.

And "we wanted to do our part in embracing the weekend experience," he said of the Black College Football Hall of Fame events.

The Black Promoters Collective (BPC) is a coalition of six of the nation's independent concertpromotion and event production companies, which are all Black-owned businesses, said the news release announcing the concert.

Two dollars from each ticket sold will go to the Student Freedom Initiative , Schilling said.

The nonprofit was created to provide freedom in professional and life choices for students attending Minority Serving Institutions, according to the Student Freedom Initiative's website.

More music during the Black College Football HOF Classic weekend

The hip-hop concert won't be the only live music during the Black College Football Hall of Fame Classic weekend.

Grammy-winning and nationally syndicated radio host Erica Campbell will headline the 2024 Faith, Family & Football Gospel Concert presented by The Good Feet Store on Aug. 31.

Campbell’s performance is part of the HBCU Family Block Party from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Aug. 31 at Centennial Plaza in downtown Canton. The concert is 5:30 to 8 p.m. Opening acts will be announced. The concert is free, but tickets for VIP seating and combo packages are available for purchase through https://www.profootballhof.com/black-college-football-hall-of-fame-classic/ .
